Our Story

Meet Gift, a young girl who used to sit quietly at the back of the classroom, unsure of her voice and afraid to dream too big. One conversation, one mentorship session, one safe space changed something in her. Slowly, she began to speak up, ask questions, and believe that her future could be different.

Meet Amina, a teenager carrying more than her age should have to bear. She needed guidance, encouragement, and someone to remind her that her story was not over. Through small acts of care, she found hope again.

Meet Blessing, a young woman with talent but little confidence. She needed training, support, and a community that would not judge her background. With the right support, she began to see herself differently and step into her potential.

Meet Mary, a mother who wanted a better life for her children but lacked access to opportunities and information. When she found a space that listened, supported, and empowered her, she found the strength to keep going.

These are the kinds of lives that shaped YAWAI.

YAWAI started with a simple but powerful desire — to help young people and women become better, stronger, and more confident in who they are.

Long before it became an organization, it was a personal commitment. Our Executive Director spent years teaching children, mentoring teenagers, and creating safe spaces where people could learn, heal, and grow.

What started as small efforts — mentorship sessions, a teens hub, and community engagement — gradually grew into something bigger. Each story, each smile, and each breakthrough reminded us that this work mattered.

In 2024, YAWAI was officially established to expand this impact and reach more lives.

Today, we continue that same mission — showing up for people, creating opportunities, and building a community where no one feels unseen or unsupported.

Because for us, it has never just been about programs.

It has always been about people.
